Definition:

Algebraic Expressions are expressions that contain variables, coefficient and constants. These expressions are combination of terms and at least one arithmetic operation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Summary:

SUBTRACTING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS

Step 1 – Remove the parentheses by distributing the subtraction sign. Remember that distributing the subtraction sign will change the sign of the terms on the right side of the negative sign.

Step 2 – Arrange all the terms with the highest degree first then in decreasing order of degree.

Step 3 – Combine term that has the same variables and exponent. Add the terms with same sign and subtract the terms with different sign.
